My First Responder
I woke up feeling punk. It was Monday. It was gloomy. I didn’t want to get out of bed. I tried to snuggle deeper into the covers — instead a dark cloud covered me! I felt unworthy – a total failure.
I listed the reasons: I can’t stick to my diet plan, I can’t take time to clear off my garden, I need to rake leaves, my best friend is having issues – I want to help her but I don’t know how.
Eventually I got up, made coffee, fed the cats, got my breakfast ready, turned on Joyce. Oh no! I didn’t have God Time yesterday!! I now have TWO DAYS of E. Stanley Jones to trudge through (sometimes he is difficult for me to understand).
After Joyce, I brought my studies into the kitchen and opened Mornings With Jesus. On Sunday’s page, Alice Thompson wrote about not wanting to go to church – too much to do – then she realized the worship, fellowship, and The WORD from church was exactly what she needed! I related that to my God Time – I really needed it today!!
But wait! There’s More!! Today, Monday, Isabella Yosuico wrote about turning to Jesus at your first sign of “personal messiness”!! I always start reading the Scripture (today is Psalm 40:17) – at the top of the page. NOT today! I began ¾ down the page – at Psalm 40:17 – In 2012 I discovered Psalm 40 and labeled it “MINE”.
Isabella wrote: Psalm 40:17 foreshadows John 15:5, when Jesus Himself said, “Apart from me you can do nothing.”(NIV) A few sentences later she continued, “Indeed, in my flesh, I’m a mess. In Christ’s robe, I can increasingly recognize and rest in both my progress and pesky defects. In Jesus, I have all I will ever need to accoomplish His will.”
Her “Faith Step” is “When you’re feeling especially aware of some personal messiness, remember Christ in you!”
That spoke to me!! That was Holy Spirit with His wise counsel. He said, “Jesus is your Ultimate, Supreme First Responder!!” Yes, Lord! YOU ARE my FIRST RESPONDER!!
Oh! Thank you, Holy Spirit. You have just given me my Blog for 10/15!! LOVE YOU LORD!!
Grannies and Grannies-to-be, I encourage you to read and hold close Psalm 40. Let me know – can you connect with today’s message?
