Old Jim

I miss him so! He passed in 2016 at age 67 – in his curmudgeon stage. We were good buddies on and off through life. When the years between our visits lengthened, the reunion was always as if we had been together yesterday. Born James Robert, known as Jimmy in his youth, He required the moniker, James R, as an adult. By the time I was giving Toastmaster speeches, he became “Old Jim” to me. We enjoyed the same Grandma, of course, but his connection with JESUS was interrupted at an early age. In his adult years he claimed to be an atheist, then an agnostic, and later on? Confused! What followed was an in-depth study of The Man Christ and his “story”. James R had read The Bible through several times! “I know JESUS lived; he was a very good man; I just can’t get the GOD part!” JESUS

My Grandma was a sweet, loving woman with a delightful giggle. She taught me a lot – by example. She always seemed to know when I was “stretching the truth”. She would have a story ready from her life — similar to the boy who cried wolf. When I couldn’t get along with my brother, she would tell me about life among her four sisters – she had examples from several age levels. Of course, the result would always be “what JESUS would say or do”. My regrets are that as I became a young adult, spending less time with her, I paid more attention to “the ways of the world”. Yes, I gossiped at work; yes, I became promiscuous; yes, my vocabulary deteriorated. I would have a “come to JESUS period” and then backslide. That happened a few times. But, as you can tell, those teachings from my Grandma

Teens

Covid Burnout — Pandemic Fatigue A recent report on the status of the American emotional climate stated that teens are the “hardest hit” group when it comes to casualties of Covid. They feel trapped. They are vulnerable. Teen suicides are on the rise. Being a teen is tough to begin with, right Grannies and Moms?  But our teens are facing a condition for which you and I have no experience. We have to dig deep and search for ways to help our teens through this. My dear Sister in Christ, Michelle (yes, the Toastmaster of “Jesus Speech” fame) gave me a prayer book for teens for Christmas — Every Day I Pray for My Teenager,  by Eastman Curtis. I looked at the index, found an entry for “JOY”, (page 41) and immediately knew I was to share it with you. This is a loving prayer for your teen, troubled or not,

Contagious!

Let’s Spread The JOY of JESUS!! Oh God, I am committed to getting others committed to You. What about you, my friends?  Are you with me?  I’m often heard saying, “A Smile is Contagious! Let me catch yours!”  To that I now add, The Love of Our Lord is Contagious!!  LOL!! Wipe out the fear of Covid!  Spread the JOY of JESUS!! “No life is Christian that is not Christianizing.  If there is no outflow, the inflow automatically stops.  We must be spiritually creative.” * I share with you, what other sweet sisters and brothers In Christ have shared with me. Truths that I have learned: I am made by God to be creative To win others toThe Joy of Jesus is the highest form of creative activity. Nothing is really mine until I share it with others. I have the desire to share Jesus with family, friends, and strangers. If

How To Share

Let Your Light Shine Grannies, I have told you no specific suggestions regarding initiating a conversation about Jesus. I found this suggestion from E. Stanley Jones in Victorious Living, during my God Time on September 26.  “Jesus began at the place of [the person’s] dominant interest…Try to find the dominant interest in people and lead them along the line of that dominant interest.  Is a youth’s interest in athletics?  Talk about a strong body, and the necessity of purity if that body is to be strong, and the dynamic in Christ to keep one pure.  Are parents wrapped up in their children?  Then the suggestion is simple:  They want to give the children the best, but they cannot do it unless they have it themselves.” What do you do if your loved one refuses to engage in that conversation?  Mr. Jones said, “If they should snub you?  What of it?

Jesus IN Jesus Out

Share Him Freely Joyce Meyer tells a story of a woman who spoke to her at a conference several years ago. The woman’s story was that she thought that Joyce had lost her anointing — the woman was getting nothing from the teachings of Joyce!  When the woman prayed about it, Holy Spirit told her that she was too full.  She had taken in many of Joyce’s teachings, and many lessons on God’s Word, but she had not given out any of them — she had not shared.  God told her that she had to give in order to get. Joyce has a similar story about her own life — a time when God told her to share His Word more. I was reminded of these stories on September 23, while reading the lesson in Streams InThe Desert Devotional, page 361. “If you will give the blessing you have received,
