Writer Tracy Eldridge wrote a touching story about the passing of a colleague’s grandmother. The grandmother had left a treasure of keepsakes – journals, Bibles, photo albums, etc. Over the years, the grandmother had written prayers of blessings and protection over her family. The family called it a legacy of faith.
Grannies, and grannies-to-be, let’s create a Legacy of Faith for our families. Our Legacy can be tangible or intangible.
My Grandma Chloe and I used to sing hymns together. I’d play the piano and Grandma would toss her head back and sing with joy! Our favorite hymn was “Standing On The Promises”. At the time, I had no idea what the “Promises of Christ my King” were, but I knew they were important – Grandma enjoyed them! That’s a sweet intangible legacy of faith.
Grannies, let’s plant the Seed of Faith in the hearts of our loved ones – a special hymn, a song, or a Bible verse – a poem, a photo, or a token. By loving and nurturing it, you can watch it grow — leave a Legacy.
I admit, the seed that my Grandma Chloe planted went through a period of drought – it withered and nearly succumbed. When Michelle, the Toastmaster, began refreshing it with her Jesus speeches, that seed shot forth and began to blossom! There’s no stopping it now!
In our verse, the Apostle Paul is talking about all moms and grandmas who plant the Seeds of Faith and then nurture them through strong growth.
Plant the seeds, Grannie! Watch your Legacy of Faith grow!
